My hopes for this service-learning project are to experience different cultures and to immerse myself into situations that are unique to me. I assume that they work with the children on their homework and teach them life skills such as anger management. They work with children after school, in the Moline and Rock Island area, who have been recommended to attend this program either through a foster agency or their school. I know that this population is between the ages of 8-18 years old. I have worked at daycares and summer camps for many years and have a passion for working with children. These children I have an interest in because they come from different backgrounds and have had a very different family life than I have had. Even though they could be very different than I am, children and adolescents go through similar life events and transitions. I am incredibly excited to start my service-learning project and what new understanding and appreciation I can gain from this.
